The 12F505 is a device designed for cost reduction.  It is similar to the 16F84 (but no EEPROM).  In fact this device has more menory (RAM) than the 12F675.

If you never have to use specific peripherals (e.g. the ones on the 16F88 or 16F877 etc.) then put this into your design to save cost.

The advantage of this device is that it is In-Circuit-Programmable via the ICSP and it also has one peripheral so it is a useful device for simple timing applications and it has a more memory than the 12F675.  It is also capable of running at 20MHz using external xtal - this is the same as the 12F675 capability.

Note: When you use a compiler you're going to have to be very careful about RAM usage as it is low.
