A digital oscilloscope is one of the most useful tools you can buy for project work and as well as viewing analogue signals some let you analyze the data in different ways e.g. perform a fourier analysis to see the frequency components of the signal.

Another useful aspect is that they can store the captured data to a floppy disk or network PC for later analysis or presentation.

They are also useful in tracking down glitch problems and some even have functions similar to logic analyzers for glitch tracking.
