DS1307 Interface with 8051

Hi I am using 8051 with ds1307 rtc. I want to set the time through serial communication through the laptop keyboard and display the time on the laptop itself.

I have a sample program which is there on the maxim website which serves my purpose. However I am not able to set the time through the laptop keyboard. As soon as i enter the selection i.e. 'a' to enter the time..my controller resets...plz help...i am posting the link of the code here
