How to interface a microcontroller to a personal computer for data base queries

I am working on a finger print voting machine in which i will like to interface a pc to a micro controller.

A fingerprint sensor will be connected to the pc with your data base both stored in the pc and the controller.

I would like to find out how I can interconnect the data base to template of finger print for authentication and identification.

Please suggestions are highly invited.
