Ultrasonic Range Finder

I am a final year student in electronic engineering searching for a pic based final year project. I have been fascinated by the idea of an ultrasonic range finder. I however have no idea on where to start from.I know the basics about distance measurement using ultrasonic waves.Can anyone provide me with the information I need to kickstart this project.



What I want to do is to do this project using the most minimal of components.On the same note I would like to know the price for the sensors that i am going to need. I need to do a cheap but powerful project.
